Well, FIRST, see your Doctor about vaccinations/immunizations available (I had to take precautionary meds before traveling in Brazil many years ago. But then, many sources (including www.FirstAidStore.com) carry pandemic Protection kits and anti germicidal and antibacterial products... these sources are also, most importantly, great resources for heavy duty insect repellents (since Malaria is generally spread by Mosquitos.)
It was once commonly believed that malaria was air or "vapor" borne (hence the name Mal Aria, or bad air) but that is not the case. Find more on Malaria @ Wikipedia.
