  • Security Cameras - 11/01/2006
I don't want to name names, but one large retailer told me they were allowing their suppliers to see how end-caps (the ends or retail aisles) marketing was doing. New video analytics are coming around that can do people counting so business owners not only get the benefit of a surveillance camera, but they also can find out how many people entered their establishment during a given time. A classic example is the business that uses security camera footage to prove its indemnity in slip-and-fall type incidents. Interestingly, according to the folks from Westec Interactive (a full service monitoring company), retailers have been among the most savvy in recognizing additional values. As more cameras get installed, since prices have dropped and resolution has increased, we'll hear more about neat ways biz owners found to use cameras as more than security.
