Thank you for the comments. Sorry I didn't explain that in the article. The industry is so full of acronyms I sometimes forget which ones are common and not.
POTS stands for Plain Old Telephone System. This is a standard analogue phone much like you would have at home.
PBX stands for Private Branch eXchange. Basically it is a telephone switching system at the office. It selects which line to use when a call comes in or goes out. It also allows for 3/4 digit dialing within the office.
