  • Hi Akwasi, In the IT consulting World, certifications really matter more for larger clients than smaller clients. At the low-end of the business, home users wouldn't even think to ask about certifications in most cases. Move up a rung, to non-technical small business owners (10-50 workstations) and they'll have some LIMITED appreciation of the value of hiring someone certified. But they don't want to pay much extra for it and would be hard pressed to differentiate between an MCP and an MCSE. It's only when you start to sell to a real IT manager in a medium-sized/enterprise business that clients start to truly have an appreciation of the value of certifications.   • You're absolutely right. SLA's formalize the relationship/marriage between computer business and client. Wtihout it, it's like you're "dating" casually without much commitment..
  • Akwasi, Thanks for sharing that link. Again, although the web makes all businesses "global", the overwhelming majority of those in small business computer consulting service those in a 30-minute driving radius and have no real plans to scale beyond their immediate local area. Those that wish to scale regionally or nationally (or even beyond) should certainly enlist the assistance of a good trademark/patent/intellectual property attorney.
