Matt, this is a very good overview. One thing i'd add is that many people copy resume formats from other people in the same profession. It's not always the best thing to do. You need to choose a resume format based on your own background and strengths. The most common are chronological, functional and combination. There are resume samples that can be downloaded in Word format at landjob.com.
